In early 2023, itslearning and the Norwegian government will start a project to develop Tanzania’s educational sector and digital learning competences. The project will be done in cooperation with eight Tanzanian educational institutions that have 60,000 students. The project is funded by the Norwegian Government Program, Vision 2030, supporting the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Tanzania faces an alarming shortage of skilled workers in almost every sector. To support sustainable economic growth, it is important to invest in programs to increase the skills of future workforce. Education authorities in Tanzania have a long-term goal of building vocational and higher education to deliver competences aligned with international standards and the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, Quality Education.
With the objective to strengthen Tanzania’s educational sector and digital learning competence, national education authorities in Tanzania will cooperate with Sanoma-owned itslearning and its Finnish educational partner Eduko to develop new local pedagogical frameworks for vocational and higher education, together with learning tools for participating institutions. The project will be done in cooperation with eight Tanzanian educational institutions, representing 60,000 local students, with an aim to start a pilot with these institutions already early 2023. One key step is the extensive on-site training using modern digital tools and best-practice pedagogy, which will enable the participating educational institutions accelerate the quality of teaching and learning. In addition, vocational courses adapted to the national curriculum of Tanzania will be developed as part of the project.
The initiative is funded by NORAD, the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, in partnership with Innovation Norway. The Vision 2030 initiative was launched in 2014 by the Norwegian government, with the purpose of developing and scaling up innovative solutions and technology that can accelerate achieving the UN sustainable development goals for education and health. Since then, several projects have been funded in Tanzania with Norwegian partners.
