On December 10th, Sanoma Learning announced the five winning teams of the Learning Lab: a co-creation initiative involving an international group of students, teachers and Sanoma employees.  Teams from five European countries have been selected to build a prototype of their new learning concept at a bootcamp, taking place in Amsterdam from 15-18 December.

During the bootcamp, the teams will work together with expert developers, designers and marketers and move quickly and flexibly from concept to prototype. These prototypes will potentially be developed further into learning products for use in schools.

And the innovators are…

Voting was done via an online livestream session and was open to everyone, including programme participants, students and schools across Europe and the public at large. Hosts John Martin (Chief Executive Officer of Sanoma Learning), Johan Merlevede (Chief Transformation Officer of Sanoma Learning) and Joris van Heukelom (Partner at Makerstreet) presided over the selection in a head-to-head competition of one winner out of two finalists from each participating country of Belgium, Finland, Poland, Sweden and the Netherlands.

The winning ideas going on to the bootcamp are: Readit personalized digital books that use avatars and other gamification features to stimulate reading (Belgium), peer-to-peer math-help platform Geekit (Finland), digital reading tutor Tuto Reading Help (the Netherlands), interactive whiteboard app Team Up to help young learners’ stay motivated (Poland), and virtual science lab Science Stew (Sweden).

According to Sanoma Learning CEO John Martin, the Learning Lab has proven to be an excellent way of engaging teachers and students in Sanoma Learning’s mission to make a positive impact on learning. “We are impressed by the quality of ideas and talent of the teams that made it to the selection webinar and the bootcamp. This type of co-development programme brings us closer to the needs of students and schools and will help us to further improve learning outcomes, boost student engagement and increase teacher efficiency.”
