The Campus seminar for teachers brought world-class change experts to Finland on 25 September 2014. The keynote speaker was top researcher Heidi Grant-Halvorson from Columbia University. Sanoma Pro, one of Sanoma Learning’s subsidiaries, was the main partner of the event.
The world is changing faster than ever and the aim of the Campus seminar is to help teachers understand the changes happening in the world outside the classroom. The Campus seminar was held for the fourth consecutive year and is exclusively organised for teachers. The topics ranged from economy to coding, from terrorism to art, from brain research to vlogging.
“Sanoma Pro produces content and tools that make teachers’ work easier, motivate learners and support good learning results based on each learner’s background and needs. With Campus, we want to help teachers gain insight into the changes happening in the world and highlight the significance of teachers’ work in teaching about these changes. Sanoma Pro is a forerunner in creating digital educational materials in response to new goals and new types of needs. Forecasting and understanding change are key to our product development,” says Kirsi Harra-Vauhkonen, Managing Director, Sanoma Pro.
The Campus seminar featured a broad-based programme related to our changing world. The keynote speaker, author and motivation researcher Heidi Grant-Halvorson from Columbia University, studied experiences of learning and happiness from the viewpoint of motivation. Lieutenant Colonel Petteri Kajanmaa, Head Lecturer of Land Warfare Studies at the Department of Tactics and Operations Art of the National Defence University, discussed the crisis in the Ukraine and military activity in the area while also addressing how the topic can be discussed at school.
Other speakers included children’s author Linda Liukas, whose Hello Ruby book project gained her international recognition, and Kai Sadinmaa, who discussed the role of church in society. Other experts at the event included Arman Alizad, Jaakko Hämeen-Anttila and Meeri Koutaniemi.
