Weilin + Göös Oy, a Finnish publisher of multi-volume books, will be adjusting its operations to match the declining demand in the market. It is under consideration to discontinue Weilin + Göös' own direct sales and concentrate them to contract partners.
"The demand for multi-volume books has decreased dramatically throughout the 2000s both in Finland and in the Nordic countries. That is a consequence from change in consumer behaviour and intensive competition of use of time", says Jaana Korpi, managing director of Weilin + Göös.
The statutory employer–employee negotiations related to the remodelling of business operations will commence on 7 October 2009 and they will be completed by 18 November. The estimated number of redundancies is 55 people. Weilin + Göös currently employs 67 people. The sales offices are located in Espoo, Pori, Turku, Lahti, Lappeenranta and Uusikaupunki.
Weilin + Göös is part of Sanoma Learning & Literature, a division of the Sanoma Group.
