Tapio Sadeoja, Ilta-Sanomat's chief news editor, acting Editor-in-Chief, has been appointed as Senior Editor-in-Chief of the paper. The Board of Directors of SanomaWSOY made the decision to appoint Sadeoja today.
"We will continue along the lines drawn by Hannu Savola, my predecessor. He once determined that we take 'a few steps towards a more matter-of-fact policy'. We'll stick to this progress. We believe in good journalism and found our success through it, in both the paper and online editions. Ilta-Sanomat is an interesting, reliable and quick newspaper, and also the leading conversational medium in Finland," says Sadeoja.
According to Sadeoja, the development of the IS brand in all distribution channels continues by applying the following principle: more facts, sports and entertainment.
"Ilta-Sanomat has developed in a good direction lately. A healthy balance between matter-of-fact journalism and entertainment has been developed. A good tabloid has interesting content. Sadeoja has successfully led Ilta-Sanomat reforms. I am convinced that the strong story of Ilta-Sanomat will continue under his leadership, to the readers' benefit," says Mikael Pentikäinen, President of Sanoma Osakeyhtiö.
Forty-eight-year-old Sadeoja has worked at Ilta-Sanomat since 1981. He has led news editing since 1997, and worked as the paper's chief news editor since the autumn of 2006. He started as acting Editor-in-Chief in January 2007.
A second Editor-in-Chief for Ilta-Sanomat will be selected through a public application process, which will be started immediately.
Ilta-Sanomat is part of SanomaWSOY's newspaper division Sanoma.
