33,000 Students and Teachers to use WSOY's Electronic Learning Environment in Espoo

The city of Espoo made the agreement about the use of WSOY's Opit environment in 2003. The aim is to guarantee equal opportunities for all students and teachers in Espoo to use ICT based solutions in learning and teaching. This wide and equal integration of ICT at schools is unique also when compared internationally.

The wide Opit start up project began in autumn 2003 and it was completed in four stages. As of beginning of 2005, Opit has been in use in all 94 Finnish schools in Espoo. Together, there are now 30,000 pupils and 3,000 teachers using Opit environment.

WSOY's Opit eLearning environment includes contents that are planned in accordance with Finnish curriculum. The user services include teacher training. Opit aims at the full utilisation of ICT systems at schools as well as lower the border to ICT use.
